Nestlé Health Science hosted a satellite symposium at the EAACI FAAM Digital Congress in December 2022. Three speakers covered new research into the effects of Human Milk Oligosaccharides(HMO) and how they play a role in cow’s milk allergy.

Mechanisms of HMO in Modulating Immune Responses

Professor of Immunology, Departments of Medicine and Microbiology, National University of Ireland

Liam O’Mahony is a Professor of Immunology at the University College Cork, Ireland. His lectures covers the early life immune development and the microbiota. He also covers in depth how HMO influence this development and the immune modulatory effects they have as well as research into infection risk.

Dr Claire Boulangé presents the latest published study results on the effects of 2’FL and LNnT on the microbiome and metabolome in infants with CMPA. Amongst other things she covers the results showing how HMO affects the amino acid catabolism pathway, SFCA production and bile acid deconjugation.

Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn is a professor of pediatrics at the NYU R.Grossman School of Medicine. In this lecture she covers the current research on HMO and clinical outcomes such as lower and upper respiratory tract infections, microbial diversity and growth.
